What is obstetrics?

Obstetrics is a branch of medicine that focuses on the health and well-being of a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

What can I expect during my obstetrics appointment?

At your initial obstetrics appointment, Panhandle Obstetrics and Gynecology providers can confirm your pregnancy and estimate your due date. They also review your medical history, your previous history of pregnancies, and your current health.

The providers evaluate the health of your pregnancy with both a physical and pelvic exam. They also request blood work to check your blood sugar levels and ensure you’re healthy.

You will need to schedule prenatal visits throughout your pregnancy. During these routine checkups, the providers may request tests to monitor your health and the growth and development of your baby. Tests can include:
